Apprenticeships

What is an apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship is a real job, backed up by relevant training. It is the start of a career, allowing candidates to learn a skill or trade in the workplace, gaining invaluable work experience, while gaining industry recognised qualifications at the same time.

Anyone aged 16 or over can be an apprentice. It offers a genuine alternative to higher education and rather than run up big debts, you get paid for the work you do. It's increasingly seen as the gold standard for work based training, with over 100,000 employers offering apprenticeships.

An apprenticeship will typically run for one year. At the end of it, you should expect to stay on with your employer as a full employee, or you might want to progress to a more advanced apprenticeship, increasing your skills and experience.

TAS will work closely with at you every stage, helping you choose the right apprenticeship and then delivering the training to you. We will also make sure you have a professional CV and lots of interview practice.

We work equally hard with employers to make sure their needs are met and ensuring that you become a valuable member of staff. That's why TAS has successfully delivered our specialist apprenticeships since we were established in 2003.

How long does an apprenticeship last?

When can you start?

An apprenticeship placement lasts a minimum of 12 months and 1 week.
There is no set starting date for an apprenticeship as they are available all year round. A start date would be agreed with yourself and your employer.

How much does it cost?

For 16-18 year olds it is free. Training is covered completely by the government, meaning you won't have to pay any fees and are debt free! In addition, you also earn whilst you learn, meaning that you will have a salary.

Do you get paid?

Yes! An apprenticeship entitles you to earn whilst you learn, meaning that you will have a salary. The Apprenticeship Minimum Wage is currently £3.90 an hour, but many employers choose to pay more. While this may not seem much at first, it's important to keep in mind that government research has found that those with an apprenticeship earn, on average, £100,000 more than those without these qualifications over the course of their career!
